New Space, New Possibilities: My Crafting Journey Starts Here

New Crafting Space

Hello, fellow crafters! I am thrilled to invite you into my new creative space and share my passion for all things handmade. After months of dreaming and planning, I’ve finally transformed a cozy corner of my home into a vibrant craft haven. This blog will be a place for me to document my projects, share tips and tricks, and connect with fellow DIY enthusiasts.

In this first post, I want to give you a sneak peek into my craft space and what inspired me to create it. Whether you’re an experienced crafter or just starting out, I hope you find inspiration here to spark your own creativity.

Let’s dive in!

I have always loved drawing and creating new things.  I learned how to sew at a young age, and although that skill never really developed beyond patchwork quilts or simple clothing, it helped kickstart my crafting journey.

My true passion is papercrafts.  I started scrapbooking when I was in high school, however, it really only started to take off after I got married.  I started out very basic and then was introduced to Creative Memories, and from there my skills grew.

Around that same time, I discovered card-making.  I LOVE card making!  Over the years, I have found that I do better using sketches or casing a card, using pre-existing designs and layouts as inspiration, rather than starting completely from scratch.

When I do case a card, I love figuring out how to make it my own with the products and tools that I have.

Some of my favorite scrapbooking and stamping companies are Lawn Fawn, Doodlebug Designs, Honey Bee Stamps, Sunny Studio Stamps, Graphic 45, Simon Says Stamp, Stampin Up, and many more.  I will be sharing creations highlighting these and other companies.  Some of my creations will focus on one company, while others will contain several.

One of my favorite techniques is layering, which can either be paper or stamping.  As we go through this journey together, I will share both techniques with you.

My crafting journey has never had a space that it could call its own, I’ve always had to share my space with someone else.  My crafting space has gone from being a corner in the computer room to being half my space and half my husband’s office.

This summer, my husband and I became empty nesters and had the opportunity to move to the Nashville, Tennessee area.  As we were looking for houses, we knew we wanted separate spaces for my craft room and his office.  We eventually found the perfect house that was able to give us both what we wanted.

Before moving, I spent several weeks planning and designing my new crafting space.  I ordered new pieces of furniture that moved with us so that once in my new space I could start putting my room together.

My daughter came with us when we moved to help me set up my craft room, while I worked on the rest of the house.

My son and my youngest daughter built their own desks, which was the inspiration for mine.  My desk is a 98 ½” countertop from IKEA that sits on top of three ALEX drawers where legs have been added to the top of the drawers to raise the countertop. Since she had built her desk, she was a good resource to help me assemble mine.

One of the things that excites me about having my own space is that I have more room for organization.  I love being organized and have found lots of great ways to do it.  Some of my favorite organization items that I use include the Stampin’ Up Stampin’ Blend Storage for my alcohol markers, various-sized kitchen and pantry storage bins for my stamps, die cuts, and other crafting embellishments, and the Stamp n Storage ink pad shelves.

Paper, stamps, die cuts, and ink pad storage

My stamp and die-cut storage were inspired by one of my crafting friends back in Houston, TX.  She used the plastic kitchen and pantry bins to hold her stamps and die cuts, dividing them by theme and company.  If there were die cuts that went with a specific stamp set, they were all together in one storage sleeve.

Stampin Up stamp and die cut storage

For my Stampin Up stamps and coordinating die cuts, I put a 5×7 self-adhesive magnet on one side of the case to store the die cuts that go with that stamp set.  That way, I would have the stamps and the die cuts all in one place.  It also makes it easier when going to cropping events to have everything together.

Storage for Stampin Up and Distressed Oxide ink pads

Stamp n Storage has a ton of great storage solutions for crafting.  Several of their solutions coordinate with some of the IKEA shelving systems.  As my craft room continues to evolve, I plan to incorporate those storage solutions into my crafting space.

To add some additional crafting space when friends come to craft, I have a folding table that fits nicely between my two windows.  It’s also the perfect spot to store my Anna Griffin Empress electric die-cutting machine and my Sizzix Big Shot.

In addition to crafting, I love to decorate and had fun finding pictures and such to really bring life to my crafting space.

I stumbled across the perfect word vinyl for my wall on Etsy, “Create
something beautiful” by Epiphany Decals. I decided on the aqua color since it’s one of my favorites and would match with my curtains.  It was really easy to apply and I loved how it turned out.

I found some additional wall hangings that helped create the vibe I was going for, and my craft room was complete. A place that was all mine where I could create, and that brought a smile to my face every time I walked in was finally here. Although it’s “complete,” My craft room is ever-evolving as I find new and exciting things to add.

Join me on my journey as I share with you the things that I learn, my new creations, crafting tutorials, and many other exciting things.  Please share with me your creative journey and let me know what things you’d like to see.

Yep you corrupted me with the metal dies on the magnets in those plastic containers but I have yet to get them all on there! I like the ideal of keeping stamps with the die will probably go back and re-do that part. You are amazing in your organization.
